Why I love to travel is simple: it changes me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Travel gives me perspective. It allows me to see the world\u2014and myself\u2014through a different lens. New places, new cultures, new foods, unfamiliar sounds, and the challenge of speaking another language all stretch me in ways that nothing else can. It helps me feel differently, think differently, and ultimately understand myself better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Language, in particular, has become a gateway for me. It\u2019s more than communication\u2014it\u2019s culture, connection, and respect. I\u2019m still learning, still struggling, but I\u2019m committed to continuing. This year, I\u2019m pushing myself toward deeper immersion in Colombia, a country full of warmth, resilience, and incredible people. I want to connect better, listen better, and show up better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On December 8, 2025, I experienced something I will carry with me for the rest of my life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to Viajar Libremente, our partnership with Nomad Travel, and the tireless work of Andr\u00e9s, along with the support of DC Rob and the Erasing Borders community, Sancocho en La Ocho became an unforgettable day. Being at El Faro\u2014standing high above Medell\u00edn, overlooking the city\u2014felt surreal. The weather was perfect. The view was breathtaking. But more than anything, the feeling was overwhelming peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That day, over 200 people shared a fresh, hot meal. It was a holiday, a rare day off for many, and families had the time to come together. People ate, laughed, talked, and simply were\u2014neighbors with neighbors, families with families. For some, it was their first time stepping inside the community center. To see El Faro filled with life, joy, and dignity was something I will never forget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People thanked us, but the truth is\u2014we are the ones who should be grateful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allowing us into your community, even for a single day, was a gift. Watching children play, hearing music echo through the space, seeing smiles and shared moments\u2014this is what community looks like. Breaking bread together reminded me how powerful simple human connection can be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you ever find yourself in Medell\u00edn, I strongly encourage you to connect with Andr\u00e9s of Nomad Travel. His tours don\u2019t just show you the city\u2014they give back. Proceeds help support El Faro and initiatives like the Cine Faro Community Movie Club, which hosts movie nights twice a month for children and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On December 15, 42 children and 12 mothers attended a movie screening\u2014many for the first time in their lives. To witness that kind of joy, to know you played even a small role in it, leaves you speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I wish I could do more. But I\u2019ve learned that impact isn\u2019t always about money. God didn\u2019t give me great wealth\u2014but He gave me a big heart. And sometimes, the most important thing we can do is create awareness and invite others to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you\u2019re reading this and may never visit Medell\u00edn or El Faro, know this: there are \u201cEl Faros\u201d everywhere. In every city, every neighborhood, there are communities that need support. Maybe it\u2019s groceries. Maybe it\u2019s toiletries. Maybe it\u2019s time\u2014reading to children, playing games with elders, or simply showing up so someone feels seen and valued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
